A Shelby County dentist evaded over $500,000 in taxes owed to the federal government, the Department of Justice reported. Andrea M. Henry, 45, had two dental practices in Cordova. It seems to be a sad case of greed. The government says Henry failed to pay $113,781 in personal income and self-employment taxes. They also say Henry evaded taxes withheld from employees for that purpose, between 2006 and 2015. Instead of paying the taxes, authorities said, Henry spent the money on private school tuition, luxury cars, and expensive housing.
Henry also initiated a scheme of sham loans through lawyers in an attempt to evade taxes on houses. The scheme was also used to lease the aforementioned luxury cars. All told, Henry owed $528,882.07. She received a prison sentence of 12 months, and was also ordered to serve 3 years of supervised release, and required to pay $653,116.78 in restitution. It could certainly be said that crime doesn’t pay, at least when Uncle Sam’s officials catch up with you.
